Jake is getting closer to crawling. We can tell he really wants to get to point A to point B, he just doesn't know quite how to do it... Inevitably he knows it's something with the hips but over rotates it and ends up rolling onto his back. It's pretty cute though and I know the grandparents are suckers for movies so here ya go. yes....we bribe him with apple products-we figure we have a small window in which we can do this before he starts putting two and two together and really wants these expensive toys. (I'm not a fan of letting little kids use VERY sophisticated technology-don't feel that they have the maturity for it. Granted many adults don't seem to have the maturity for it either but one battle at a time folks. Don't get me wrong-kids need to learn how to use computers etc but I have my toys and they have theirs....unless it's a long roadtrip, then it's whatever stops me from banging my head into the steering wheel).
I've been watching the west wing on netflix lately and have become addicted. It's snappy, intelligent, and every episode is interesting/has some kind of deeper theme behind it as well as over-arching story lines/development. Two thumbs up from this girl-and it's hard for me to really fall in love with a tv show. Trust me, the list is short, but happy to add one to it. Highly Recommend it!
It's been a long time since I had a new hobby/interest. I usually continue to dabble in the oldies but goodies, but today I decided to go after a new project/hobby. Growing things. I've never had a green thumb per say-probably because I never feel like I know what I'm doing, but I want to. While some day, when we have a house of our own, I'll most likely get into gardening cause it somehow seems like one of those hobbies you have to do as an LDS woman like food storage (neither of which excite me in any way but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.) For now, however, flowers do excite me. I love flowers and always have. I love how they brighten up the place and can make anyone feel special. If I had the budget for it I'd buy fresh flowers all the time, but this ways cheaper. So today I bought some forget-me-not seeds (have had a special place for these flowers ever since Pres. Uchtdorf's talk about them. see here if you haven't heard it: forget me nots
I also bought some white daisies. I love daisies-in the words of Meg Ryan: They're so friendly. Don't you think daisies are the friendliest flower?
So I bought a seed starter kit and am waiting with bated breath, hoping that I'll see some sprouts in the next few weeks. I'm sure I'll keep you posted on their progress.
And the last thing that has made me happy lately is decorating our new home. We have plans for each room and have a list of what we need to buy, and it'll take some time to collect it all but it's still fun to have a plan and be on the hunt. Today I went to target and got a mirror for our mudroom area and some cool art to hang in our guest bath. They had so much other cool stuff though-I'm sure our list of things we want to get is going to get a bit longer.
(the tree one)
They had THE cutest turquoise/light blue table that would be perfect by the back door to set mail/keys etc.... but I digress :) On the same front, there's a tv/shelving unit thing that I really want and it's a great price for what it is but it's not available to buy online AND it's not in stock in ANY of their stores that they list online (ya know, so you can check if your local store has something). yes, I went through every store on that list to check if they had it and no one did and no one could say when they were planning to get it back in stock. So why is it on their website???? to make me fall in love with it only to be disappointed and not get it? ARGH! Yeah....I'll be giving them a call.....
sigh.....
But anywho, back to happy things. I'll squeeze two real quick here at the end: I honestly enjoy living in Springville. We went up to provo south of campus to spoon it up (A popular frozen yogurt place among the students) and it was so good and sooo cheap compared to Houston! Afterwards we walked around campus and checked out the new fancy heritage halls where DT used to be-pretty snazzy.
5$ for both of them!
and finally I LOVE LOVE LOVE how much Code is excited for his job and enjoys it. It's seriously such a difference now that he is actually happy to go to work in the morning etc.
Life is good.
things that will make me happy tomorrow-checking out the springville library. It's brand new and close :)
Careful with the Forgetmenots, they're self propogating (sp?) and can quickly take over wherever they are planted.
ReplyDelete....ok....though these are just for indoors :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the tv entertainment center. Super cool! I hope they get it back in stock soon. Of course you have a green thumb ...we come from a long line of gardeners! Your great, great grandpa worked for a nursery and planned the landscaping around the capital buildings in Utah and Colorado. He is credited with getting the very first rose to grow and bloom in the Salt Lake Valley ...helped the desert bloom like a rose so to speak! You'll do great! How could you not?!? (Remember your grandma's plant room? There are not many people around who have one room in their houses reserved just for plants!
ReplyDeleteJake is so cute ...it looks like he's trying to swim! He'll catch on soon then you'll have to put everything up out of his reach!
