We were lucky enough to have my parents still in town for Jake's first birthday (otherwise I don't know how I would have gotten everything done and keep him entertained). It was a great day. I spent all day getting the decor/garage ready and the cake/ cupcakes-we did ice cream cone cupcakes and then a lil smash cake for jake. We had a variety of frosting for the kids' cupcakes: vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and then toppings to go on them (sprinkles, m&ms, gummi bears etc).
I just did a basic light green, yellow, and blue theme in the table clothes, bday banner, and without meaning to- his outfit in his big 1 year portrait was green, and his lil baby book that Grandma Shayne made for us was blue, and our lil framed stats from his birth had greens and blues and my lil homemade framed chalkboard with his current stats was green. Didn't plan it, but it all came together.
(we moved the ugly boxes out before the guests came ;)
1 year portrait!
we didn't have enough tables/easels so i just wrapped some boxes in left over green tablecloth and put it behind the table (meh whatever)
says: happy birthday jacob (it's still up in the garage)
When Code got home we opened presents and face timed with our GA family. Jake got tons of cool books/toys and he especially likes the books he got. He got some bath toys, his first car toy which came with his first legos, a cool number puzzle, shape toy, spiral slide for 3 balls thing, a sweet fire engine toy that he can ride around in, and the 2 biggies- our water table and wading pool.
(firetruck toy that actually has a hose that sprays water ;)
After our face time call and our guests started arriving we partied. The kids loved all the water toys and the adults sat around chattin' and eating in the garage. Between our local friends we had a fun lil group of kids
Jake preferred the water table. He loves swimming in like a real pool but for some reason he doesn't seem to like the shallow wading pool....maybe it was too cold- he expects a warm bath in that shallow of water?
Thank you Laurel for the umbrella!! It was a life saver!
I don't know if you can see in the below picture but if you hook the hose up to the pool it has a sprinkler feature-along the edge of the pool. pretty fun.

and chowin' down on watermelon
Jake wasn't in love with the whole smash cake idea. He took a few licks of the icing but didn't know how to eat it-it is just one huge thing/hard to pick up. so I dug in a bit and gave him some of the inside which he seemed to like, but not enough to do it himself and get his hands dirty (he really doesn't like messy hands).
yeah...he was done after awhile...
not happy....and I got cake in my ear.
He got great presents from our friends-thanks everyone for helping us celebrate!
After awhile Jake decided to be sulky and hang with Uncle Eric in the corner with the balloons
Jake loved smiling at Jeffrey Beck which was pretty stinkin' cute to see-can't believe how big he is!
(sorry for the bad lighting)
Now that the birthday craziness has calmed down a bit and he got a good night sleep he's really enjoying his new toys/books. Today we got a belated bday package from Mike, Jess, and the kids out in KS. It had some model cell phones in it perfect for him to play with-hopefully he'll forget about mommy's and daddy's phones now :)
All and all it was a great birthday and he slept SOUNDLY after it :) I was a lil sentimental/mushy in the morning but then I shook it off cause I don't want to be one of those moms who cries "my baby!" I love love love Jake at this age-so fun, explorative, yet not quite destructive enough-it's still easy to divert him. We go in on Monday for our yearly check up and round of shots so stats to come.

(and this was him on a not smiley day-imagine how much cuter these could have been!)
