Cody turns 30

well, it's an end of an era.  Of our 20s to be more exact, tho ok, I still have a month to enjoy my 20s :)  Cody turned 30 this past Friday.  It's funny.  you'd think that I would freak out about getting older but it just makes me appreciate all of the time we've spent together and look forward to the next decade and all we have to look forward to.  We had a chill day-Code insisted that I didn't go all out, I know strange...  so Jake had been diagnosed with strep throat earlier that day so instead of going out Code brought in dinner.  Then we had some homemade cheesecake (my first time, not bad i must say).  Then we opened his birthday presents!  His main present that he was most excited about was a really nice ice cream maker.  It's the kind that all you have to do is plug it in, pour in your recipe, and hit start.  No pre-freezing the bowl/or hand cranking or anything.  It's pretty loud but hey, if it makes great ice cream and it's that easy I will deal.  Along with that we got a ben and jerry's recipe book, and some containers to store the ice cream in that helps avoid freezer burn/getting too icy etc.  I'm excited!  We've stopped buying ice cream ever since Jake's allergy cause there are NO ice cream brands that are safe-all are made in facilities/shared equipment with nuts etc.  I guess we could just buy some and wait til he's not around to eat it but we wanted to find a way that he could enjoy ice cream this summer, so I guess we'll make our own :)

The next night I took Code on a fun date-and unfortunately we didn't take any pictures.  We went to getoutgames in provo on university ave.  It's your typical escape room where there's a scenario and you have to find clues/combinations to get out by an hour.  You're in a large group and work together.  We went at the same time as a huge group date of teens, so they split up-some going with us and the others going in an identical room next door.  We raced against them (they barely won but they said we were neck and neck).  Our scenario was there was a mob boss and we were in his office and had to find his stash of gold and then get out in time.  It was really fun and i'd love to do it again with family/friends/people we actually know.  There's a "game master" that is watching/hearing us the whole time and you have 4 hints you can ask for just by saying out loud, "hey, can we have a hint?" and there's a screen where a message will appear to help you.

Afterwards we went to Bruges Waffles right down the street- one of our favorite dessert places.  All and all it was a fun weekend and is even better now that Jake has been on antibiotics for a few days and is acting like his old self :)  Hopefully none of the rest of us will catch it (fingers crossed).

Happy Birthday Code!!!! 30 never looked so good :)

 Birthday Muffins:

Easter

Spring is in the air and that means Farm Country! These boys love them some animals and when the weather is as gorgeous as it is in Utah during the spring, mommy loves them too.

We had a fun easter that included dying eggs for the first time, finding our baskets and having our egg hunt in the backyard with the cousins.

our attempts at a nice easter picture, sigh

we thought bubbles would help....nope-actually worse haha

Mikayla's baby shower

With the help of Shayne & Liz, (& Etsy and Pinterest) I got to throw my sister in law a baby shower.  It was a lot of fun to get together with family and celebrate the next little man joining our family.  Since it was the day before Easter I did a cute springy-themed shower I saw on Pinterest with a "feather the nest" bird theme.

bird nests (rice krispy treats) with cadbury eggs

a cute diaper cake from Etsy pulled it all together.

A birdcage held the party favors- lil gift boxes with nests holding cadbury eggs inside:

we had some paper for the guests to write notes of encouragement/advice etc and put them in this cute little birdcage that she could take home with her to remember it by.

Allan and Mikayla opening their presents:

We played some games as well: we guessed how far around Mikayla's tummy was, tested our mommy nose with an egg smelling game, and practiced our momma bird feeding skills where we could only use a spoon in our mouths-no hands!

And the winners won a bird jar with colored malt eggs:

As always, it was fun to get together with everybody and help feather Mikayla's nest :)
