an aside

I know I need to catch up on our trip to houston for the wedding, but I was just in the mood for a quick aside.  Cody and I went out on a date tonight thanks to Shayne's bday present to me- dinner at zupa's and seeing one of BYU's current plays.  It was a fun night, and after the play since it was still light out (that really weirds me out in the summer btw), we decided to go to our old "spot" that we used to sit and chat at back when we were dating and "visiting hours" or whatever were closed, and we had to find somewhere else to hangout at.  We walked up and down the streets under the Y, looking at the big houses.  That's still one of my fav things we do together-just walking and chatting about anything and nothing.  I'm pretty sure we walked by a couple that just got engaged-haha, yup we're in provo.  At least I assume that's what was happening- the guy was kneeling and the girl was standing yet leaned forward to kiss him etc.

Anywho, tonight we were discussing "vacationing"  as in, how we will do it with our family.  See, we both grew up very differently when it comes to vacationing.  According to Cody, his family was BIG on camping.  Not roughing it camping, but they had a trailer/RV thing, and wherever they would go-they would camp out at either state parks/KOAs etc along the way and take their time getting there-that was half the vacation right there, the journey.  They never stayed in hotels.

Switch to my family:  We didn't stay in hotels often either, but that's because my dad would pride himself if we could make it Utah from Texas in less than 24 hrs.  He'd drive pretty much straight through and if you had to pee A.) you're waiting for a gas stop.  And B.) you'd better be faster than the pump cause there'd be a good chance the car'd be gone when you got back (obviously over-exaggerating, but only a lil).  Getting the feel of it?  the journey was not the fun part-it was the once you were there time that mattered.

Now I think Cody and I make a good team cause we came from such opposite traditions which helps us even each other out to a more normal expectation.  For my part, I like camping- going for a camping trip in of itself is a vacation to me- but I don't think i'd like going all out with an rv or whatever, I'd like nice equipment: tents/cots/ etc, but I want it to feel like camping/enjoy nature etc.  The problem comes when I don't know if I'd like to mix camping (one vacation) with actually going to a city etc to do stuff/sightsee etc (with another vacation).  In my mind those are separate things.  I don't want to smell like fire/feel meh when I'm at a theme park or museum or whatever we're doing.  At the same time not wanting to leave the peaceful nature etc to go to a hectic day of touristy things.  I want one or the other on any given vacation not both.  Needless to say we have no idea how our vacations will work in the future, but we'll figure out what works for us I guess.

One thing that we are 100% together on tho, is travel.  (just us).  We have a long list of places that we really want to see.  We have budgets set up and we're saving up for big trips for our 5 yr, 10 yr, etc anniversaries.  We figured rather than going and doing some exhausting see everything trip, why not take our time in really seeing/experiencing different places over the years.  Our first big trip will be a year from this august- our 5th anniversary.  We decided on England-London and surrounding areas too.  We also want to do Italy and France, South Korea-he's dying to show me around there and Im up for Asia.  Then tonight we started talking about more off the beaten path/not so obvious places we'd like to see.  (obviously we're very influenced by the amazing race).  I heard recently how amazing iceland is.  And, honestly, who would think of Iceland?  How many people can say they've been?  It's not hard to get there but for some reason it's commercial tourism is just not something you hear about a lot.  We want to go to places that are unique and not visited super often.  I'd also like to go to Sweden/Holland where most of my ancestry is from.

Off to google random places :)

If you want to go somewhere-don't assume you can't.  Take action, sure it may be 5-10 yrs away but start saving now.  I feel like most of the time people don't travel cause people somehow convince themselves that it's "impossible" or just not something that is done.  It's done.  All the time, and only you are limiting yourself.

travel on.
