Untitled

Since I've managed to get way behind in blog posts this is will be the reader's digest version.  Things that have come and gone since my last post: My birthday and first mothers' day.  Both were GREAT-I got terribly spoiled with new books/movies/two-count 'em-TWO pairs of toms, and the big cahoona: my beautiful red kitchenaid.  Yes...it's a blessing and a curse cause cookies are entirely too easy to make now. (though code's not complaining)

I'm now at 30 weeks (will be at 31 weeks on Friday), and everything is looking good.  Our kiddo is quickly running out of room so either I need to loose a couple of ribs (which he seems to be trying to accomplish by mere friction, or my already very round stomach will have to start expanding outward.  It's crazy to watch my belly move around.  We have our crib though we haven't assembled it yet-but every so slowly are starting to move out the stuff taking up space in our front room so it can become the nursery.

I can't believe that my first baby shower is coming up in a few weeks! time really flies :)

Our callings are REALLY keeping us busy right now.  We started a mission prep class for our stake and it's basically our dream calling cause it's teaching/we're doing it together/and it's missionary oriented-doesn't get much better than that.  On top of that I'm taking over for our head choir director who is soon going out of town, so i'll be running all of the practices and conducting multiple musical numbers this summer.  It's kind of fun tho-gaining that experience and confidence.  Also, as a ward missionary I'm helping put on this open house thing we do every quarter-this one is an emergency preparedness fair for the community.

So yeah...we manage to keep pretty busy all things considered.

Here's some random pics from the past lil while-i'll have to get a more recent pic of me and my bump one of these days :)

(pics of gifts I received for bday/mom's day, me blowing out the candles, and a random minor league baseball code and I went to with my mom in Sugar Land)

Transitions

So in a few days I will be officially starting my 28th week and entering the third and final trimester.  (Anyone else hearing the "final countdown" in their head too?)

I figured I'd record some of my feelings/how I've been doing/feeling lately with an updated (might be a week late) pic.

I'm a little bigger than the pics above but I'm not looking/feeling particularly cute today so ya'll can wait til I post about my birthday coming up to get a more accurate one :)

Crazy crazy times...ever since the New York trip I feel like my body has been slowly transitioning into what it will be like in the 3rd trimester.  It's subtle things but I know my regular levels of energy and overall stamina- at least since the 2nd trimester and recently my energy levels have not been up to par with what used to be considered normal before the trip.  Everyday is different of course, some days are better and more normal-ly feeling than others but I'd compare it to the feeling you get when you have jet lag or the way you feel right before you come down with something-I mean, you feel pretty much fine but ever so slightly off-like your body is fighting something, like you don't have the usual spring in your step.  Sadly I wont' get over the bug I'm dealing with for another three months haha.  oh well.

The best representation in picture form to capture the transition from 2nd trimester to 3rd trimester would be:

Moistowelet

I LOVE this pic.  It kills me EVERYTIME.  So I may be feeling like the soggy owlet but this feeling will soon enough become more normal and expected and I will gain endurance for feeling like this while still not letting it affect my mood etc.  And hopefully soon I will forget how great I felt in the 2nd trimester and accept my current jet-laggy self.  In the meantime Code is the constant ray of sunshine to my day-seriously wouldn't know what I'd do without him and his support/help.

In other news, we've started watching downton Abbey-a PBS show based on a family in a brittish manor and the servants who wait on them.  I'm surprised how good it is-we weren't sure at first (let's just say these people's lives are much more interesting than I imagined possible for this time period) but it's really grown on us. (Thomas must die!), and it's sad cause there are only 7 episodes and no way to see the 2nd season that I'm aware....it's not on hulu or netflix yet :( But it's exciting to have a new tv show to be in to.

This weekend should be a fun one!  Cody is taking off Friday for the heck of it and my birthday is Saturday (still freaks me out that I'm turning 26-not that I think that's old, but I wasn't consciously aware of the fact that I was 25 this past year when people would ask I would always have a debate in my head of whether I was 24 or 25 so it just doesn't feel like it happened.  feel like I skipped a year).  And this Sunday is mother's day, the first one that I can officially celebrate as a mom.  Crazy...

So I have a feeling that this summer is going to RUSH by and not just because the baby is coming.  Cody and I are staying very busy with our callings in our ward.  He's still in scouts of course and we're both ward missionaries.  I'm quickly becoming the main choir director since the head choir director will be gone all summer on vacation so I'll be filling in for her until...well...until I'm physcially unable to anymore :)  and it's crazy in our ward this summer-we have 5 different missionaries who will be going out at different times.  I swear, every other sunday we're either having a farewell or a homecoming and they always want there to be some kind of special musical number so this should be interesting.  And Code and I were just called to another calling that will involve weekly teaching which we're sooo excited for-seriously our dream calling- but we have to get everything ready for that to start up soon.  So yeah...busy busy busy....oh yeah and I've offered to help our stake music chair put on the youth summer musical-tho by the sounds of it, it wont be as hard core as my youth stake musical was growing up but we'll see :)

Besides all of that we have two baby showers coming up in june as well as a trip to Austin to see Les Mes (so excited to see this again, and it's code's first time ;) so we'll see how my tired lack-luster energy levels deal this summer :)  Honestly it's good though.  I'm happiest when I'm productive and busy, and I'm looking forward to losing myself in the work-looking outside of myself and being distracted from the annoying stages of pregnancy :)

stay tuned sports fans it should be fun!

The Great NY Trip of 2012 cont.

Ok, so after the Smith farm we stopped by the palmyra temple and took some pictures.  The next day was a chill and relaxed day around the cabin.  We went on a fun little walk until it started pouring on us-we had bad luck with percipitation and hikes/walks this trip haha, but it was still pretty.

The next day we hit up NIAGARA!

So this day was really fun and awe-inspiring.  It was a 2.5 hour drive from our cabin and a little chilly that day- the constant mist of the falls didn't help :)  We went on the maid of the mist boat ride where we got our official niagara ponchos.  The boat drove really close to the horseshoe falls near the canada side-the wind and mist and power of the waves was ridiculous!  The boat was going full throttle and we weren't even moving.  There were a LOT of international people there which was interesting.  We heard russians, koreans, some middle eastern languages, and some eastern european languages from the sounds of them but we had no idea what they were speaking.

The city across the river in these pics is Niagara Falls, Canada-a much more built up and pretty city than the american side.  So there's the American falls which is just a straight formation of rocks and then the canada side falls or horseshoe falls are the famous looking curved falls.

Usatthefalls

After the boat ride we walked around to the different vantage points they have set up for pictures and it's crazy how close you can get to the edge of the falls.  It was kind of cool cause i'm currently reading parley p pratt's autobiography and right before our trip Parley talked about coming upon the falls when he was on an eastern states mission-i'm sure it was even more awe-inspiring back then without all the safety precaution and man-made tourist stuff around it.

It was a pretty cool site to see and of course we got our refridgerator magnet-how we keep track of cool places we've been.  We also went to the Niagara aquarium-pretty humble but still fun, and went to dinner at TGIF where they messed up the boys' food so we got free desserts-I'll take it. :)

I was DEAD tired by the end of this day though-we walked 5 miles according to Cody's pedometer...which would be a lot for me if I wasn't pregnant.  Yeah...I was hurting, but it was fun and the next day we obviously relaxed, played games, ate the remaining food, watched modern family, and packed.

This was taken Sunday morning out on the cabin's patio before we left for the airport.  It was such a fun trip and hopefully the start of a very fun tradition!

The Great NY Trip of 2012 cont.

Ooo! two things that I forgot that were really cool stories from the Whitmer tour: so Mary Whitmer was having a hard time keeping up with all the house work/cooking/being the hostess not only to her large family but to Joseph and Oliver and eventually Emma and Joseph's parents too.  One day while she was milking the cows a man came to her and after reminding her that her service was not going unnoticed showed her the plates so that she would have a testimony to cling to when she was having a hard time/ to further motivate her. she is often referred to as the fourth witness.  How cool is that?  I just loved this story cause it's so touching to me when Heavenly Father, in His own way, lets us know that he knows and appreciates all we struggle through and sends us tender mercies to give us the strength and resolve we need to keep going.

The other cool story/fact/whatever was that after the church was officially organized and Joseph and Oliver were named as first and second elders they were re-baptized in the Seneca Lake.  the first time they were baptized the church wasn't organized yet and they were baptized for the remission of sins and the second time they were baptized and confirmed members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  (of course now we are baptized for both all at once.)  Just interesting.

Ok, so after the Whitmer farm we drove up to Palmyra stopping on the way to see the Hill Cumorah.  I was surprised at how big and dramatically steep it was.  Up on the top they had a monument to the angel moroni recognizing  that this was where Joseph Smith received the gold plates-tho obviously we don't know exactly where on the hill :)

Man, I'm tellin' ya, I was huffing and puffing up that hill.

After this we went to Palmyra and on main street found the printing press where the book of mormon was published.  It was kind of cool cause right there, there were four different churches-each on a corner of the same intersection (pres, meth, cath, and I forget the fourth...baptists?).  I guess Joseph wasn't kidding when he wrote his history about the religious furver of the time haha.

We had a cool tour from a senior missionary and it was really amazing to see just how much monotonous work went into creating the first 5,000 copies.  A cool random fact, the printer who took on the job had a cool new press that made it faster than what it used to be and was only in the printing business for the duration of the publishing of the Book of Mormon and then went on to other business ventures-just interesting how the Lord gets just what He needs to finish His work.

After the printing press we drove a few minutes over to the Smith family farm.  It still is out in the middle of nowhere but now you can see the palmyra temple from their homestead which is pretty cool.  It was amazing to see where they walked and talked and where all those different miraculous things happened.  It was especially cool to stand in the upper room of their log cabin where Joseph was first visted by the angel moroni after having the first vision to learn about the book of mormon and his mission etc.  It's such a small room.  It's truly a miracle that the others stayed asleep.  Code said it best when he said that this trip helped him to feel the reality of all of those events, and the humanside of Joseph.  Not that we worship him or think him a god, just...we focus on his mission as a prophet so it was fun to see his humble beginnings and realize that he was just a little boy, teenager, man like everybody else etc.

The sacred grove is right up against their property-literally their backyard.  It was so peaceful and beautiful and serene.  We walked through the paths that they had established and sat on a bench and just soaked in the quiet and our thoughts, and then we read from Joseph's account of what happened there which was unique and special.

(this was when he was around 15 years old btw)

"While I was laboring under the extreme difficulties caused by the contests of these parties of religionists, I was one day reading the Epistle of James, first chapter and fifth verse, which reads: If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Never did any passage of scripture come with more power to the heart of man than this did at this time to mine. It seemed to enter with great force into every feeling of my heart. I reflected on it again and again, knowing that if any person needed wisdom from God, I did; for how to act I did not know, and unless I could get more wisdom than I then had, I would never know; for the teachers of religion of the different sects understood the same passages of scripture so differently as to destroy all confidence in settling the question by an appeal to the Bible.

At length I came to the conclusion that I must either remain in darkness and confusion, or else I must do as James directs, that is, ask of God.

So, in accordance with this, my determination to ask of God, I retired to the woods to make the attempt. It was on the morning of a beautiful, clear day, early in the spring of eighteen hundred and twenty. It was the first time in my life that I had made such an attempt, for amidst all my anxieties I had never as yet made the attempt to pray vocally.

After I had retired to the place where I had previously designed to go, having looked around me, and finding myself alone, I kneeled down and began to offer up the desires of my heart to God. I had scarcely done so, when immediately I was seized upon by some power which entirely overcame me, and had such an astonishing influence over me as to bind my tongue so that I could not speak. Thick darkness gathered around me, and it seemed to me for a time as if I were doomed to sudden destruction.

But, exerting all my powers to call upon God to deliver me out of the power of this enemy which had seized upon me, and at the very moment when I was ready to sink into despair and abandon myself to destruction—not to an imaginary ruin, but to the power of some actual being from the unseen world, who had such marvelous power as I had never before felt in any being—just at this moment of great alarm, I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me.

It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!"

(Joseph went on to ask which church to join and was told to join none of them for they were all in one way or another no longer the complete church that Christ had set up while He was on the earth and learned that it would be through him (joseph) that the restoration of that church would be brought about).

Sorry if you find these next pics boring (feel free to skip them ) but I love forests-the colors and how the light changes through the trees, seriously, we have a painting of a forest scene in our family room and I felt like I was walking through it the whole time :)
