They got here last monday and it took a day or so for jake to get used to them again but once he got over his shyness he was all smiles all week long.
While they were here jake turned 9 mos old so we did a little photo shoot. I had tons of 9 candles left over from code's IT Crowd birthday cake so we played around with them.
Jake went to his 9 mo appointment and I was pretty happy with our doctor so that was good. He weighs 18 lbs 4 oz, is 28 inches long, and has an average head size (to be honest I never care about that stat). He has 2 teeth in the middle bottom row (I'll try to get some pics of them soon). He now eats baby food 3 times a day and still has 4 8 oz bottles a day. He is soooo close to crawling! He still rolls everywhere but he'll get up on his hands and knees for 20 sec or so and then just rolls over/plops down on his tummy and gets frustrated. This past week didn't help him progress much cause everyone was holding/playing with him haha. I think he had maybe 30 min of quiet self-directed play time all week!!! (yeah, trying to get him back to playing on his own this week is going to be fun....) but he loved this past week. He says lots of G and B sounds lately.
He loves to stick his hand up your sleeve while you're holding him and then stick his hand in his mouth:
He still loves bath time and splashing. We've been going to laptime at the library every monday and he's really warmed up to other kids (he used to only be interested in adults). He's such a joy to have in our family and we love our lil jake!
Before we went to dinner at the Brick Oven with steve, eric and sarah, and mom and dad. I hadn't been back since before we moved away and it was really good. Jake sat in one of their highchairs for the first time which was awesome cause he's generally content in those things and mom and dad are happy to be able to eat too!
as you can see, paper is one of his favorite things.
Then the next day we visited Grandpa Adams which I didn't get pictures of :( and then we visited grandpa and grandma Richards up in Salt Lake. Here's 4 generations:
afterwards we went to Crown Burger (Code was so jealous. They're burgers are ok but I really like their fries/ fry sauce and Jake once again rocked the highchair)
After Crown Burger we went over to Uncle Eric and Aunt Sarah's place to hang out a bit. We saw their ducks-they have TONS of ducks and they're pretty aggressive :)
there were cute lil duckling and one of them found a lil cigarette bud and started chewing on it making it look like a lil duckling was smoking- disturbing and funny all at the same time.
as you can see jake crashed the second we headed home. (he slept really well this past week)
If I had to pick a favorite day that would DEFINITELY be Saturday :) The weather was perfect-in the upper 60s/ lower 70s and had a nice cool breeze. We started out our day by going on a hike. We busted out our lil jeep carrier (thanks zwygarts!) and drove up to pleasant grove to hike around battle creek canyon. There were tons of families with lil kids so that tells you how challenging the hike was :) but it was still fun and just nice to get out and stretch our legs.
there was pretty yellow lab who wanted to cool off along the trail :)
we couldn't get jake to look...
as we were coming down (the hike only took an hour up and down I'd say) jake started nodding off so code was trying to support his head so it wasn't lolling everywhere haha.
who knew hiking could be so relaxing??
hmm I was trying to find pics that we took of when code and I hiked here before we were married to do a lil comparison but I can't find them....this makes me mad.....
After hiking we went to the creamery on 9th for some lunch and jake once again sat in the high chair. So many people come up to us to say hi to jake since we moved here. Lil kids who love babies will come wave at him, grandpas will walk by and pat him on the head etc. People really love babies here. Not that they don't in texas....just...we somehow get more attention here.
After lunch we headed over to the south field for the rugby semifinals. I had never seen a rugby game in person. It was pretty cool. I'll admit I still don't know all the rules but I can definitely follow it. Someone from the other team even got thrown in the sin bin. I like rugby games cause they make me feel international-I can't tell you how many new zealander/ british/etc people were around us. Though we put sunscreen and a hat on Jake, AND he sat in dad's shadow (I love how as long as you're not in direct sun light you're not hot in utah) he was still pretty tired/drained. He's not really used to being outside for long periods of time. Though he did great with the cheering etc.
And.....he was OUT
daddy enjoying the game
We won! so the finals will be this saturday-maybe we'll go to it too. I love being outside. Later this same night the volleyball had their final game against long beach. Mom, dad, and steve went but code and I stayed home to have a chill night with jake and watched it on the tv. Our cougars won so they'll be playing in the NCAA final four in LA later this week (in volleyball, apparently, they just go straight to the final four).
Sunday we enjoyed church-mom and dad had jake during 2nd hour so we were able to focus and teach second hour which is rare (the focusing. not the teaching.) After church it was nothing but hanging out/ eating dinner/ and playing games together.
from our angle it looked like jake had a long striped tongue.
Cutest Flip Book EVER!
playing with uncle eric
Needless to say it was an EPIC week full of fun and family. We also watched some movies too: dial m for murder, wreck it ralph, dark knight rises, the burbs, 10 min of Goodbye Mr. Chips (the title alone haha), and lots of youtube videos (dad discovered the youtube channel on our appletv.) Though he did find some gems:
