leavin on a jet plane

That's right.  We're flying out to see family in GA tomorrow night with our 6 mo old.  Half of me is weary of what could happen- a blow out, him screaming the whole time, being locked in a plastic tube with a hundred other people during peak flu season (someone wanting to touch him and NOT asking if it's ok etc), the list goes on.....mainly I just don't like to annoy or inconvenience people around me.  And I'm sensitive  when it comes to Jake being fussy in public.  In church if we can tell that he's going to be fussy (never really screams or out-right cries) we take him out in the hall until he's fallen asleep and then come back in.  While I do believe it can be over done to where kids only want to act up to go out in the hall when bored, I also feel that if my kid is loud to the point of distraction it's my responsibility to take them out and not detract from the spirit of everyone else's meeting just to teach a lesson/ make a point.  But on a plane...there's no where to go-def no taking him out....scary to know there's no emergency exit.

but the other half of me isn't really that worried.  Every time we've worried about dealing with a perceived difficult situation with jacob it ALWAYS goes easier than expected.  We drove 24 hrs to Utah.  I expected the worst, but really he only cried in earnest for a 30 min stretch (we're talking the WHOLE way)-30 min out of 24 hrs not too shabby, and this is only a two hour flight.

Honestly I feel like we can time it just right to where he can be fed and happy through security/waiting for the plane and we can change him right before getting on and then feed him as we're taking off (to hopefully help his ears to pop) this is really my only concern-that his ears don't pop or they hurt him etc and he's fussy and miserable the whole time.  It's awful when you can't help or explain why it hurts- or, heck, ask him-do your ears feel ok?  But...I'm sure he'll be fine.  Yes, he tends to not do well when having to sit on a lap for prolonged periods of time so there may have to be some walking around with him, but who knows...it is later in the evening so maybe he'll get tired with the dim lights and just go to sleep.  Hey, a mother can dream can't she??

Either way, no matter how bad it might be-it'll only be a few hours.  Secretly I'm excited to see how he'll do-he really likes looking at people etc, and getting attention from those around him.  It's fun for me to watch him slowly reel the people in and melt their hearts with his shy smiles and coy head turns.  By the end he has them eating out of the palm of his hand haha.  Hopefully he'll be his charming self tomorrow.  At least I'm not traveling alone :)
We're excited to see our fam tho!  They haven't seen Jake since he was 2 months!  I'm sure he'll love interacting with his aunts and uncles :) (wow, calling them that makes them sound so old haha-they're all in middle school/ high school).

GA here we come!  Many pics to follow I'm sure :)

  2. You guys will do great! To help with ears popping, try to time it so you can feed him when the plane takes off (via bottle if you feel self conscious :) We did that with Emily, and it really helps. Then she fell asleep!
