Engstroms visit

Ok.  Here we are with Eric and Heidi Engstrom at Niagara falls april 2012.  Both of us were expecting boys-I was farther along by a few months.  Due to some complications we both delivered within days of each other July of 2012-they're son Aiden actually beat Jake here :)

Fast forward 14 months and here we are with our lil guys.  (I'd just like to say how hard it is to do a selfie with 4 adults and two wiggly 10 month olds....)

jackpot:

Eric, Heidi and Aiden came in the area for a family wedding and we were honored for them to stay with us for a few days amidst all the family that was clamoring to spend time with them.
Jake and Aiden meet for the first time (something tells me these two will be thick as thieves on future joint family vacations)

as you can see jake was more interested in meeting eric than aiden.

Then jake decided to approach aiden how a dog would...

at least aiden seems to like it.

They came last sunday which happened to be another old friend/roommate's bday who was in the area so we had an old fashioned hang out/smash session for the boys.  Jake and Aiden were instantly mesmerized.  It was as if they're lil Y chromosomes were firing for the first time haha.

must get closer to the action...

"hey tyler, give me a turn..."

at one point eric let out an "eric shriek" causing jake to cry so we had to put some distance in between jake and the game :)

Monday we went to lap time at the local library.  I dunno...I don't like it as much as the old class....now it's 0-2 age group instead of 0-1 and they're doing all this sophisticated finger play that jake just doesn't care about and they don't seem to sing any of jake's fav songs anymore. meh.  We'll see if we keep going.  Some group play:

Jake def started doing a bunch of new stuff while aiden was here.  He really picked up his crawling and he can pull himself up to standing which he had never attempted before as far as I know.  Now he's always standing in his bed and waiting for us in the mornings.  He also started this wave thing where he curls and opens his fingers...not sure if he means to be waving or he's just experimenting but either way it's pretty cool.
We took the boys to our local splash pad.  Aiden was fearless-crawling (even on the rough cement) and jake started to move around too which he's never done on anything but carpet.

we played on the swings at the splash pad-jake saying hi.

hmmm...

By the time we were done splashing/and really hot code got home early from work in time for the dads to give the boys a bath:
this was the first time jake was in the real tub without his baby tub.  I think he liked it.  Now we can tease them when they're older :)

It wouldn't be a classic nolden/engstrom vacay without a hike.  We went to a hike that heidi had heard about up payson canyon?  I think?  anywho, it was a lil drive-30 min and the hike itself was shorter than that haha, but it was super easy and pretty-it went up this stream and you got to cross over it back and forth multiple times and eventually led to this cool waterfall grotto.

yay for baby backpacks!

love those cheeks!

happy to hike

After our hike we went to the creamery for lunch.

Then it was off to the BYU museum who actually had a new exhibit up (I thought they were done for the summer).  It was on femininity/domesticity etc.
This was interesting...you come up to a wall and see al these strings-almost looks like a waterfall, but they go through the wall
and this is what's on the other side:
super neat strands that make up this complex ball

some other ones we liked:

So all the squares are a picture of the artist taking different bites out of different marshmallows and I don't know if you can see them, but they're all there on the shelf that runs along the bottom-they're pink with all the bites taken out of them.

a huge wedding dress made out of bubble wrap:

they looked like ufos but they had like pictures of some hindu goddess on the end of the arms sticking out that was like the goddess of life and destruction.

There were two plants who were filmed over time and there were signs up saying to say nice things to one and mean things to the other with a video looping over time showing they're growth/reactions.

then it was back home to hang out/play one last time before they had to move on.
Here's jake pulling himself up on daddy:

enjoying remotes:

baby chicken! who will stop first??

(they both stopped)

It was fun meeting Aiden in person and hanging out/playing with our friends!  It'll be fun to hang out over the years as our families grow :)
